The short answer
Maryland SDAT processing times vary by filing volume, but once your Articles of Organization are accepted, your LLC is legally active. Standard processing often takes a few business days to a couple of weeks; expedited options may be available for an additional state fee set by SDAT.
What 'approved' means
When SDAT accepts your Articles of Organization, your LLC exists as a legal entity in Maryland. The effective date is generally the date SDAT processes the filing, not the date you submitted it. You receive a filed copy of your Articles as confirmation.
What affects the timeline
Processing speed depends on current filing volume, whether the paperwork is complete and correct, and whether you request expedited handling. Rejections for errors add time, which is why accurate preparation matters. We prepare and submit your filing promptly and keep you updated at every step.
What you can do while you wait
You can begin planning your banking, contracts, and EIN application in parallel. Most Maryland LLCs need an Employer Identification Number from the IRS for banking and taxes. EIN setup is included in our $375 LLC Formation Package.
